Interior lighting design, 2011.
The sanctuary of St Ignatius’ church in Ossett, West Yorkshire had been overlit using inefficient halogen luminaires, which proved expensive to operate and maintain. The key part of our brief was to reduce that cost while expressing the liturgical significance of the space and the elements within.
The design provided a simple and controlled scheme for ambient and spotlighting to the sanctuary – strengthening its role as the most important part of the church during and outside mass times. Further, by employing LED light sources a more predictable maintenance cycle was extended and reduced energy consumption and resultant costs by over 70%.
