Public Realm Lighting Design, ongoing.
Middlesex Street forms a busy threshold between the Petticoat Tower housing estate, a local library and the City, but the value of the space was obscured by a pair of concrete car park ramps.
Wall-mounted LED luminaires improve facial recognition and colour rendering and are coordinated with the proposed landscape design – light grazes through climbers and the leaves of street trees – to soften the space after dark. A special luminaire suspended from the cantilevered external staircase would mark the new library square.
