Embassy of Brazil

Exhibition Lighting Design, 2012.

Designed by NaJa and De Ostos and opened by the Brazilian President on the eve of London 2012, the Brazil at Heart exhibition showcases a modern nation with cultural diversity and exuberant nature in the ornate ‘English’ environment of the new Embassy of Brazil in central London.

The 750m2 temporary installation set over two floors utilises the ambiguity of sinuous natural forms. Focusing on innovation and technology alongside the 2016 Olympic Games and 2014 FIFA World Cup (both to be hosted by Brazil) the exhibition design utilises interactive and sensorial elements to mediate the experience of the user. The ground floor structure is made of 103 layers of triple walled corrugated cardboard accommodating ten exhibitor spaces and exhibition infrastructure.

Studio Dekka’s lighting design uses yellow fluorescent battens embedded within the cardboard structure: their linearity and colour enhancing both the material and formal experience of the exhibition. Additional feature and ambient light was provided by LED track spotlights.
