Kings Crescent Community Orchard
Public realm lighting design, 2014
In advance of the extensive redevelopment of the Kings Crescent estate, the Community Orchard is a new amenity that offers an opportunity to test some of the public realm and lighting masterplan principles of the wider scheme.
The lighting scheme suggests a playful domesticity that matches the scale and residential quality of the park. The lit effect, form and colour finish of the apparatus defines the space against the adjacent street lighting. A laser cut sign welded to the central columns initiates a sense of ownership and serves as a hanger for community notices.
